Memorial Day

On Sunday, we went and visited my grandparents' graves.

We had a bunch of rain and windstorms.  Daisy loved the leaves blowing in the wind.

Daisy's Nest

Daisy has taken over a purple flower bush in the backyard, she likes to lay in it like she is a bird in a nest.

May Flowers

Here are all the gorgeous flowers Dad planted in our garden this year:

This tree got damaged by the wind last year, so we didn't know if it would survive.  We are glad it did.

The cats are enjoying the warm weather.  They loved to go out and sit on the deck and the patio.

Finding Cats

I couldn't find Shadow anywhere, so I went downstairs in the basement and took the flashlight to look in every nook and cranny.  I finally spotted him.

We have a screen on our back door on the deck, so the cats can go in and out, which helps to cut down letting bugs in.   The cats put their heads under the screen to come back in.  On Thursday, I hear my parents laughing and wander out to the family room.  Daisy had decided to bring in a grasshopper and Dad had to catch it.
While I was taking a nap on Saturday,  Dad let Daisy out in the backyard.  She brought him another grasshopper on a stick and then snuck out under the fence, because dad had moved some of the bricks.  I went out the front door to find her.  She was in our neighbor's garden when I found her.  When she saw me, she bolted to the fence, knowing she was in trouble.

Dresses, Doctors, and a Tragedy

On Sunday morning, we couldn't find Shadow anywhere after he went out to the backyard.  Mom found him under our deck, which has boards around the two side entrance and rocks to block the front entrance. Daisy was on the deck, covered in hay and webs, so he must have followed Daisy under the rocks and then couldn't get out.  I went down to the basement and got a chair, putting it up against the window and opened the window.  Shadow came running over to the window's edge and I grabbed Shadow's paws and pulled him towards me, through the window, after I took the screen corner off.

Daisy and Shadow like to sit on my television together.

Television Standoff

Shadow and Daisy have been fighting this week over who gets to sit on my television and who gets to sit on the end table in the front room.

Pioneer Day

On Wednesday, I took the cats outside to get the mail.  Shadow went and hid in our garden.  Daisy went and hid under the truck.  I grabbed Shadow and put him back in the house and shut the door.  When I went to find Daisy, she was in our neighbor's yard.  Good thing their big dog wasn't out.

Flowers and Cats

June

Shadow had a rough day on Monday.  I let the cats out in the morning, because they were antsy.  When I went to check on them, Shadow was over swatting at an metal and plastic flag in the yard.  He came in from outside with a bloody paw.  He must have punctured his paw.  We tried to put gauze, neosporin, and band aids on his paw and he was scared of it.  He kept trying to bite it off and running away from his own paw.  I washed his paw with clean water and made him sit on a hand towel until it stopped bleeding.  He also kept throwing up grass and meat for the rest of the day.  Poor Kitty!  Until he heals, he can't go outside.   It's really tough, because Daisy wants to go outside and when we let her out, Shadow just looks at us like we are being mean to him and meows at the door.

Memorial Day

Daisy has been sleeping upstairs this week and has been able to bond with Shadow.  Shadow likes to follow her everywhere and chase her tail. Daisy went outside for the first time by herself.  She spent a couple of hours playing with Shadow in the backyard, watching the sprinklers. At first the two cats kept me up most of night, meowing and running around the house.  Now Daisy sleeps in my computer chair, while Shadow sleeps on the bed with me.  One of the cats kicked me in the stomach during the middle of the night with their back paws, as they were jumping off the bed.   Daisy even used Shadow's litter box and he didn't seem to mind it, because he used it right after her. We had to put blocks under the gates of the fence, because Daisy kept climbing under them and going into the front yard.  What silly cats!

Friday May 25th was the two year anniversary of our cat, Patches's death.  I think about her every time I go out to the garden. It still is very sad to see her little plaque and cat statue in the backyard where she is buried.  I miss her sometimes.   Saturday May 26th was the two year anniversary of us adopting Shadow from the animal shelter.  He has been such a good cat and hilarious with his antics.

Daisy

Last Saturday, when we dropped off our car Shadow to be boarded, we saw a cat that was up for adoption that was the same breed and had the same markings as him.  She is a five year old female Tuxedo cat, whose first owner abandoned her, her second owner passed away, and her third owner gave her to Idlewire.   Part of her right ear is chipped, which must have been bitten by another animal.  We asked about her when we came to pick Shadow up on Wednesday.  Mom called the veterinarian who has been taking care of her and asked her questions about her.

On Thursday, we went and picked the cat up from Idlewire and took her home with us.  We named her Daisy.  She is very friendly, likes to purr and rub against your hands and feet. She has been sleeping downstairs in the basement with Dad, as part of isolation period.  We are slowly introducing her to Shadow, so they will feel comfortable around each other.  We've been having them smell each other under the door and stare at each other from a distance.  We are going to get her declawed, so she doesn't scratch him, before they have full body contact.  I have been trying to spend equal time with both of them, so they don't get jealous.

On Friday, I heard Daisy meowing rapidly early in the morning and I ran downstairs to see why.  She had gotten behind the big desk Dad put in the basement and couldn't figure how to get back out.  Dad moves the desk forward a couple of inches and then she ran out.

On Saturday, Daisy climbed through the installation into the furnace room, so we were looking for her everywhere.  We found her in back of the water heater asleep.

Chasing Shadow

On Monday, I went to get the mail and our cat Shadow came outside with me. He decided it would be fun to jump down to the basement window sill. I had my mom come outside while I figured out how to take the screen off the window. When I took the screen off, it scared Shadow and he jumped back up to the garden.

Shadow made me chase him around the front yard before he would come in the house.

Shadow

On Wednesday afternoon, Mom and I went to the Davis County Animal Shelter and got a kitten. We named him Shadow. He's a black and white cat and is only eight weeks old. He loves to be held and very affectionate. He's done some pretty funny things in the past couple of days like turning on the DVD player with his paw and being jumpy around big noises.

Patches

This afternoon, we had to put Patches to sleep because she was getting worse and weaker. She was falling when she walked, whimpering, and still wasn't eating on her own. When I got home from school, I sat with her on the front porch and held her for a while. It was pretty sad holding her, kissing her on the head, and putting her in her carrier for the last time. Dad took her to the vet and then buried her in the backyard garden. We buried Patches in a cardboard box with her head on her little heart pillow she slept on. I am going to miss her so much. She slept on my bed with me every night and was my little shadow. I take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is with her original owner, my Grandma Wayment, who will take good care of her in heaven.
